Gift of play to benefit families in the KT Murphy neighborhood in Stamford
The United Way of Western Connecticut (UWWC) announced today a grant award of $20,000 to Abilis, a nonprofit agency that runs family centered programs for infants and toddlers as part of its Birth to Three program. The grant will be used to bring “Play to Learn” playgroups to families who reside in the KT Murphy Elementary School neighborhood in Stamford.

Alexandra “Lexi” Woodruff has been eating them for even longer than she has been cutting them, and on this morning, she is easily winning over a microgreen newbie.
“They make delicious, good and healthy salads,” says the Greenwich resident, as she carefully snips a small section of broccoli, arugula and kale shoots. Most of the time, Woodruff said it’s her mom who finds a place on the plate for these petite powerhouses. “I really love her cooking.”

Deficit plan restores some state money — for now

GREENWICH — Officials at Greenwich-based Abilis, who feared the worst as Hartford moved to close a gaping budget deficit for the remainder of the fiscal year, are breathing a bit easier after legislators this week passed a bipartisan deficit mitigation package that likely preserves most of their funding.
Greenwich Hospital also saw a restoration of reimbursements that had seemed destined for the budget ax.
