About the Peter Bloomer Citizenship Award and Nomination Process

The Peter Bloomer Citizenship Award to recognize students who demonstrate a high level of sensitivity toward people with disabilities.

Peter Bloomer was a student who received special education services in Greenwich. After he died, this award was created as a tribute to Peter and all those who helped him by honoring middle and senior high school students for their leadership, involvement and participation in activities with people with disabilities

This is the 36th year that Abilis will present the Peter Bloomer Citizenship Award to students in our community. Over the years, we have presented more than $60,000 in scholarships and awards.

Below are the guidelines for the two awards – one for graduating middle school students and another for graduating high school students. The guidelines include selection criteria and a description of the nomination and selection process. More than one award per age group may be given.

Many outstanding students have significantly contributed to the lives of people with disabilities.  Please help us recognize their efforts by forwarding these guidelines to the appropriate personnel in your school and encouraging them to nominate commendable students.

Nominations must be received by Monday, May 15, 2023.
