Abilis, a non-profit organization that provides services and supports for individuals with special needs and their families will offer the Abilis Fall Speaker Series. The Abilis speaker series is available for parents, caregivers and grandparents who are caring for an individual with special needs. The series is free and open to the public. Seats are limited and registration is required. Registration can be made at abilis.us/therapeutic-services. Two speaker sessions are scheduled for the month of November and include information on financial planning for families with children with disabilities and how to navigate the holidays.

Special Needs Trusts or ABLE Accounts? Financial Planning for Your Child, presented by Stephen Ehrens, CPA and Wealth Advisor on Wednesday, Nov. 2, from 7-8:15 p.m., at Abilis, 50 Glenville St., Greenwich.

Financial planning for the future of your child. Stephen Ehrens, CPA and Wealth Advisor, will discuss Estate Planning considerations, Special Needs Trusts, Wills, Benefits (SSI and Medicaid), Insurance, and Investments. Also, how the just-signed-into-law ABLE Accounts will provide a tax-sheltered vehicle for your child of any age. Detailed information package provided.

Holidays & Changing Routines: Using Visuals and Social Stories to Help Your Child Cope, presented by Jillian Aili, M.Ed, BCBA Georgy Hennig M.Ed, Meaghan Nagurney, M.Ed, BCBA Tuesday, Nov. 15, 7-8:15 p.m., at Abilis, 50 Glenville St., Greenwich.

Hear from Abilis’ board certified behavior analysts and special education teachers, Jillian Alli, Georgy Hennig, and Meaghan Nagurney on how to use visuals, social stories, and other environmental supports to help children with special needs manage the exciting, but sometimes overwhelming holiday season. With the right plan, children of any age can cope with disrupted routines and learn, grow, and enjoy a wider range of holiday events, treats, travel, and time with friends and family.

Activities

Abilis offers social and recreational programs for children, teens, and adults. These programs range from weekly music, art, and cooking classes to monthly birthday parties with dancing and teen social gatherings with games and pizza. In addition to these regular events, Abilis schedules special outings to New York City and other destinations to enjoy arts events.
