Volunteer At Abilis

• Support Abilis program participants as they learn important skills in foodservice, retail, landscaping, and business services (paper shredding)
• Work with Abilis Business team to do outreach in the community to help secure additional work opportunities for Abilis program participants
• Accompany Abilis program participants as they attend or run special events, like the annual Grahamberries sales around town

• Work with retail trainees to learn flower arranging, plant care, jewelry making, candle and bath product making, retail sales and more
• Volunteer to support semi-annual Sip & Shop events, work in the garden center, or plant flowers around the shop and Abilis HQ grounds

• Volunteer to support programs on a daily, weekly, monthly basis, support with outings and other volunteer opportunities with program participants
• Share a skill, teach a class (music, exercise, skills, etc.)
• Mentor program participants and teach them important life skills

• Help beautify residences with gardening, decorating, special events
• Volunteer for holidays, cooking, special treats, and special events
• Adopt a House

• Volunteer your time and talents for Abilis special events, including: the annual Walk/Run for Abilis, Spring for Abilis Gala, Golf for Abilis, Dancing Stars of Greenwich, the Abilis Annual Meeting, Project SEARCH graduation events, Together We Shine, the Abilis Talent Show and more.
• Join an event committee, manage events, and volunteer day of event

Some recent opportunities include:

• Thanksgiving feast, for residents who celebrate with their Abilis families - setup, serving our guests, clean-up
• Done in a day - cleanout a shed, stain a porch/deck, paint a bedroom, build a garden
• Together We Shine, our annual formal dance event - decorating, serving food, greeting guests, clean-up
• Abilis family fun day - coordinate and operate activity stations

The Abilis After School program provides a structured environment where teens assist program participants at Abilis after their regular programs end for the day. Teens commit to at least one time slot a week. They may take on various roles, whether it's helping in the kitchen, leading karaoke, guiding arts and crafts, or simply being there for someone that needs a friend. It's a wonderful opportunity for teens to meet other teens and to support, engage, and make a difference in the lives of Abilis members.

We welcome businesses and corporations to volunteer with Abilis or participate in a "Day of Caring" to help with special projects throughout the year. Some examples are:
Host an activity or event like a carnival or fun field day for Abilis program participants.

Power wash or paint an area of an Abilis residence.
Adopt an Abilis residence to volunteer with a specific home on a regular basis.

Help with planting flowers or landscaping at Abilis HQ, Gardens & Gifts, Harvard Avenue or any of the more than 60+ Abilis residences throughout Fairfield County.
