GREENWICH — Young adults with special needs will soon have a new resource for securing job skills. Abilis, a Greenwich nonprofit that serves people with special needs in all life stages, has partnered with Greenwich Hospital to offer Project SEARCH, which will aim to give people with disabilities marketable skills for a competitive workforce. “We look forward to our new partnership, which will offer increased opportunities for young adults to achieve their goals and fulfill their potential,” said Amy Montimurro, president and CEO of Abilis, in a statement.
The program will accept students between the ages of 18 and 30. It will give participants real-life work experience and hands-on training. The goal of the yearlong program is to help students transition from school to adult life with internships.
The students will undergo an orientation, skill assessment and development of a career plan. Throughout the year, they will learn from an employment skills classroom curriculum, and will have several internship experiences at Greenwich Hospital.
”Greenwich Hospital has had great success in collaborating with Abilis in the past and we are eager to expand upon those internship and employment efforts,” said Melissa Turner, senior vice president of Human Resources at Greenwich and Bridgeport Hospitals, in a statement. “Not only have these passionate individuals performed good work, they have also provided us with tremendous insight as we strive to be an inclusive employer within our community.”
An information session about the program will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Abilis office at 50 Glenville St. For more information, visit www.abilis.us.
