Amy Montimurro 2018Abilis, the non-profit organization that provides services and supports for individuals with special needs and their families throughout Fairfield County, Connecticut, announced on Wednesday the selection of Amy Montimurro as its new president and CEO, effective immediately. Ms. Montimurro has worked with Abilis for more than 22 years, most recently as its director of Life Services, and stepped into the role as interim CEO July 1, 2018. In her appointment as the new president and CEO of Abilis, Amy will lead the organization that serves more than 700 individuals with special needs and their families annually from birth throughout adulthood.

 Amy is a forward-thinking, strong team-focused leader with a deep passion to serve the special needs community and fully embraces the values of our organization,” said Alonso Martinez, Abilis Board chairperson. “She has managed Abilis’ Life Services since 2006 and has led the organization through a tremendous period of growth, providing oversight and leading direct services programs for young adults through seniors with intellectual disabilities. It is with great pleasure that I’m able to announce on behalf to the Abilis Board that Amy will lead Abilis as its new president and CEO.”

The Abilis Board has spent the last several months conducting an executive search for its new president and CEO. The Board noted that Amy was a top contender from the very beginning and has shown her leadership skills over these past several months during as she led the organization as interim CEO. Under Amy’s leadership, Abilis has expanded the scope and geographic range of its services throughout Fairfield County, including: The launch and expansion of our Young Adults/Transitions Life Skills program in Greenwich to Stamford, Westport and Wilton.

  • An increase in the number of Abilis businesses which serve as job training sites, most notably Abilis Gardens and Gifts.  Working with the 60+ local businesses that competitively provide employment for the individuals we serve.  Implemented a robust social and recreational activities program for teens and adults that reaches 200+ individuals providing opportunities for friendships and social interaction. Increased the number of residential options throughout Greenwich, Stamford and Norwalk.

We are delighted to have such a qualified and caring professional leading our organization for our next chapter,” said Alonso Martinez.  Amy’s academic accomplishments include a L.M.S.W degree from Fordham University and she is an adjunct professor at Fordham’s Graduate School of Social Services.
